I have a question, hope you don't mind. In the rules for posting photos, you say to use either Imgur or Postimage. I do have some things on Postimage, but I keep the bulk of my stuff on my premium host, ImageShack. Do I have to use Postimage? Or can I use Imageshack? No worries, was just wondering.

Along the same lines, if I share a new build I've done, I can post an introductory pic (using Postimage - which will be a new experience for me) but is it OK to share the remaining photos via a link to my Google Photos Album? Other than that, I am in admiration of how you have set up your new Forum. It is VERY well-organized, and easy to navigate! Good job, well done!

My understanding is that the rule exists because attaching images (and similarly files for rule 5) takes a lot of bandwidth and can add up to a lot of server space. Also, it discourages some of the less desirable options (like tinypic) or as well as hotlinking from a site that you might not have permission to hotlink from. As far as I know there's no plans to actually double-check everyone's image links. Of course this could change in the future if people get silly.
The rule could maybe be phrased slightly more openly, but to keep it short and phrased in a positive ("here's what you SHOULD do" kind of way rather than a "DO NOT DO THIS" kind of way) it suggests some popular and reliable options which will not hurt our bandwith and storage space.
Giving a link to follow to an album on google (or anywhere) should be fine. There's no specific rule about what outside content you can link to, however we may need to come down on improperly-described external links at some point, to prevent people misleading others about what the link actually is. I probably don't need to tell you this but if anyone uses this post in the future for information I want to put on my mod hat and remind everyone that you should always tell people where links are going, either in the paragraph in-line text or the hyperlink itself.
To expand on this, if you already host your downloads on your own site there's no meaningful reason to reupload them simsfileshare, you would just link to your own download page there.

Yup, exactly what Damon said.👆👆
I only mentioned Imgur and Postimage because neither of those require accounts to use. But, if you have your pics on another image service, that's fine. As long as you're using *some* kind of image service to post pics.
(However, I will say that PhotoSuckIt *is* banned here for obvious reasons... but luckily, I don't think many people use them anymore.)

(Totally agree about "PhotoSuckIT"!!!!!) TBH, even before they pulled that stunt, I was starting to hate them.😣 Their site ran like molasses and was full of intrusive pop-ups and advertisements that couldn't be blocked by an adblocker. I think they were also already imposing bandwidth limits as well, resulting in tons of broken and watermarked images. I don't miss them one bit.

I see now. Okay, I never attach photos anyway anywhere, I just link to my image on whatever host I'm using-usually ImageShack.
As regards Photobucket, they suck eggs for pricing people like me out and trying to hold my pics hostage with intrusive watermarks. I really think it was deliberate to get us to leave.

It seemed like they knew their time in the spotlight had passed and decided to just nuke themselves and drive off everyone who was still using them.
There's too many old Sims sites and forums out there (like this one) that are full of broken/watermarked images that will never be fixed, and that pisses me off.😣

So I was (and sometimes am) in another hobby that requires a lot of .pngs and such because it involves sprite work. Everyone was using Photosuckit and sharing resources in the forums I was in. Then Photosuckit did their stunt and we lost 90% of those resources. It was sad because like with Sims 1 it was an older engine and many artists had left already or no longer had their artwork on their hard drive so it was all lost. I'm still bitter about that.

That really was such a dick move on their part.😠I think that was the main photosharing site everyone used in the late 00s and early 10s, so tons of forums and websites suddenly lost all of their images in one fell swoop. I don't know how that site even exists anymore after the stunt they pulled.

Yeah, photobucket was super popular until... well, read back lol. I would say probably the most popular. Putting all your eggs in one basket is risky. I pretty much only put my eggs in my own basket now and even then I have local backups of most things. There's actually a fairly recent BBC article about a woman who built her business around a blog and her website vanished without warning because it was set up by a third party company which went out of business. Apparently she eventually tracked down someone from the former company who had to spend six hours negotiating to get access to her data. www.bbc.com/news/business-64051121

I think PhotoSuckIt benefited from having poor competition. The only other alternatives at the time were TinyPic, which had a habit of reusing URLs and deleting photos after a certain amount of time, and ImageShack, which had lots of restrictions and would become a paysite in 2014. PhotoSuckIt was never that great, but the competition was worse.
But, once Postimages and Imgur showed up, it was game over -- they didn't force you to sign up for anything, and there were no strings attached. So, PhotoSuckIt started losing users and eventually imploded on itself.

Well, Imgur now makes you deal with their terrible "community." Although I guess that's a small price to pay for free image hosting. A lot of (social media) sites just host the images for you to keep you on the platform and incentivize your friends to sign up-- not hotlinking allowed (:

Just upload and snag the link. I only use Imgur when Postimages is down.
