I found out about this new forum via Facebook and decided to check it out so here I am I am from Australia, and have been playing Sims 1 since 2000 and of course moved on as new games were released so mostly play Sims 4 now. Every now and then I get out my old XP laptop and play Sims 1 though. Still have my collection of CC but always discover some I missed or didnt know existed. Sadly there isnt many active Sims 1 forums around now. Anyway hi out there if you are reading this

Hi! It's nice to see another simmer who started around the same time I did! I got the original base game sometime in 2001 or 2002 as a gift, got hooked on it and then got every expansion that followed.

Nice to meet you, Kharis! I've been playing since 2002, so I'm also a long-time Simmer.
Feel free to settle in and post around. We focus on Sims 1 here, but we have a subforum for discussing the later games if you feel like talking about them.

Thank you both. I joined because of Sims 1 really, so would mostly be focusing on that version I had a look at the links section and some of those sites I remember from many years ago and still "alive"! Most of those though are new to me so I will be checking them out

I love having a handy list of Sims sites to turn to.

I was at CTO as well, but I was mostly just lurking in those days. I still find it really sad what ended up happening to that site.

I actually didn't keep up with CTO after it moved to facebook because sometime around 2017 I stopped using facebook. I know they were trying to find some way to patch in Joomala upgrades, I offered to help, or to rebuild their file structure but as told no, it was under control and should be done in a few months. I do still have the blinkies I used to make on my computer, though

I do still have the blinkies I used to make on my computer, though I never kept up with them on Facebook, either. I don't use that site, and I never will. I still remember what a mess that upgrade was.😵 The site went down right after New Years, and they were saying it was going to down for a week. Then, it became two weeks. Then, a month. Then, two months, and so on... Everyone was hanging out at Simblesse Oblige and causing that site to constantly go down because they had very limited bandwidth. CTO finally reopened by the start of summer, but the upgrade was never installed properly and the board was semi-broken. Then, the site got hacked a couple of months later, and it went down for good. Seems like the people in charge were in way over their heads with that upgrade. I remember even before that, the site was running really slow and having issues with getting hacked and going down...
I'd love to see those blinkies, if you don't mind sharing.🙂

Sure, and there's some never-before-seen variations they didn't use (or, I didn't like and submit for them). mustard.leadpipecollection.net/Blinkines/I even made one to be used post-upgrade...

Cool blinkies!👍 The "I survived" one makes me crack up! Really echoes how that "great migration" ended up turning out for most of us!😄

Ah! You are bringing back old CTO memories! I was a Moderator (a few "pay grades" lower than the Admins) there for a few years, up to its closing. After Joan mostly faded away into the Mists of Indifference, a select few of the Admins kind of took over and became...ummm...quite exclusive and dictatorial. When CTO ended up on Facebook, I wasn't interested in following, since FB is definitely NOT my thing! Recently, one of the TerraLuna members said that participation has declined drastically - only about 30 posts in any given month. Ah well.... P.S. Damon, thanks for sharing those blinkies!!!

I recall Joan was still around but perhaps not very active in an administrative capacity when I was around, although I did talk to her about helping move the site. I still think my offer to archive the files and just build something new was more realistic, but she said she spoke with someone else who claimed they totally could transfer it. I don't want to come off as bitter-- more sad to see it go. TerraLuna sort of became a spiritual successor, but I am frustrated sometimes that it feels like a gated community with new memberships closed to often. It's sort of makes me not want to bother sharing too much-- what's the point of sharing inward with the other wizards in the tower who could well learn it on their own?

Yeah, I remember how it was in those final days. Joan basically faded away, yet she gave the Mods very little power to run the site in her place, so it was basically a ship without a captain. I think Joan only ever reappeared whenever she needed money or something broke.😒
Being closed to registration 95% of the time really hurts TerraLuna, imo. The site will never be able to grow if it can't get any new members, and as Damon said, it's hard to feel motivated to share anything there when few will ever be able to access it. Maybe, Simtonic and the others are fine with TerraLuna being a small, exclusive community, but nobody should be surprised, then, if activity stays low...

It's sort of makes me not want to bother sharing too much-- what's the point of sharing inward with the other wizards in the tower who could well learn it on their own? Yeah, that's my issue with TerraLuna, as well.😞 It's very much a gated community with so much information and content locked behind a wall that very few can pass through. I guess I should count myself glad that I was able to join back in the early days when membership was still open, but that does no good to people who are just getting back into the game now.
That's admittedly one thing that drove me to start this site. There needs to be a Sims 1 forum that's open and accessible. TerraLuna's too hard to get into, and N99/SimsCave are also both locked behind login walls (and aren't purely Sims 1).
Meanwhile, at this board, the member creations subforum is the only one that requires joining to see, since I want the items here to only be for members. But, lurkers can see everything else, which is what I want. This site isn't just a discussion forum, but also a resource for links, WCIFs, and (eventually) game/creating help. Anyone playing the game should have access to those resources.
(Also, joining here is very easy compared to a lot of other sites -- I don't force people to wait for email approval or make X number of posts before they can become members.)
