Because I am not, or have been, a member at Terra Luna I cannot say if these things are true but some people do have some unpleasant things to say. Having said that, people have unpleasant things to say about most forums, Sims or otherwise.
MTS doesn't require registration to download anymore, I can download from there without it and read the community area. They dont have S1 downloads as such but they do have a S1 section in the community area with links.

I am very torn about sharing because as much as I want to respect the creator's wishes... some of them have not been around for so long and honestly, how did they plan to enforce things anyway? I've always been FSF "I can't stop you, anyway" for my content.
What I don't really like is when people try to white-night for a creator that hasn't been around for years and years. Some people weren't around in 2002 to download this from the site, which stopped updating January of 2003 and still had a 9/11 memorial on the homepage.

I know this is off topic but I can feel myself shriveling up knowing that there are people who weren't born in 2002 yet that are in college or going to start college soon. I remember when Sims 1 came out it was the coolest thing because before that I just had my dad's architecture disc to play around with. Having people live in the houses I had created was mind blowing to me. Sorry just coming to terms with being old

It's OK. I had to teach an 18 year old to drain greasy meat a few years ago.

I do want to clear something up as a former moderator... Simblesse Oblige went down because the host changed their packages, and the package Simblesse Oblige was downgraded severely. The next tier up so prohibitively expensive and may have required a forum upgrade which may have gotten rid of a lot of old posts and attachments (it wasn't clear precisely what the risks were with upgrading). The site was going down mostly from bot traffic making it run out of bandwidth. The bots would keep trying to register, hammering the site and the database. It was not going down from CTO members. The things I miss most about Simblesse Oblige are the people who are no longer with us. I think fondly of Yernesa (sp?) and her 'packrat' and her alien sims that lived in their weird desert. Also, patchover who I 'archived' but may have been lost on my old hard disk. Her posts started to remind me of the book Vita (Biehl, 2005), in a beautifully tragic way. I regret to say I have tried to browse Simblesse Oblige on the wayback machine a few times and I always get very very sad seeing the people who are no longer part of the world alongside the many people who are no longer part of my world. Some of the most patient and understanding people ran that site. Sounds like the site basically got held hostage by its host.😖 This is one reason why I've always liked using ProBoards for forums. Not only are their sites very easy to use and customize, but they're also free, and you don't have to worry about paying for hosting or running up against a bandwidth limit. With how long some of us have been playing this game, it's inevitable that we'd lose people along the way.💔 I still feel kind of sad whenever I stop by Nyx's sites, especially her final one. She went through all of that trouble to build that third site and start putting new stuff on it, and now it's just sitting there, never to be updated again. It makes you wonder how many other sites were abandoned because the creator passed away...

Some people weren't around in 2002 to download this from the site, which stopped updating January of 2003 and still had a 9/11 memorial on the homepage. Exactly how I feel, as well. It's one thing if it's a creator who's still active and can actually be asked, but what else can you do when it's a creator who hasn't been seen or heard from since 2003? (Or, to go back to the above part... may not even be alive anymore?) After all of that time, I don't think the FSF "rules" matter anymore. Sharing is better than letting something completely disappear for no good reason. I've been playing this game since 2002... and I regret to inform you that there are currently 20 year old adults who were not alive yet when I first started playing. How is that even possible?!?!?!?

OMG! LOVE that kitty! I think it's a testimony to the game! It's beloved by everyone - from "Old Farts" to "Young Uns." I've often wondered what Wil Wright thinks of all of this....

Since we're showing kitties does anyone else think the pets from Sims 1 are the cutest out of all the sims games? Maybe I'm biased but I love them so much.

They feel the most like pets in sims 1, I think. Onward they got too silly trying to make them too complicated.
I do think it's funny that there's perhaps more you can do with pets than children in sims 1, but children make friends with each other super fast and that's great for your adult's careers so... I guess it's a toss-up.

I think everything about gameplay got too complicated in the later games, aka. aging, aspirations, and all that stuff.😵 I briefly played Sims 2 for a little bit, and I only really enjoyed building lots. Also, I still find it insane and ridiculous that EA refuses to make pets a standard feature after all these years: They literally just resold Unleashed to people three different times!🤦♀️ And, these EPs also all have the laziest titles, too. I guess that goes back to another issue I have with the later games. EA seems to really love recycling EPs from the previous versions, while also throwing in tons of unnecessary "Stuff Packs." They got way more money-grubbing with the later games.

I guess it's a toss-up. Since I never give my adult Sims traditional careers (they all either work from home or at a Community/Downtown lot), kids are useless to me.😋 Plus, having to constantly send them to school every day gets annoying, and they can't cook anything for themselves.

So, there's been some insight on why things like pets and seasons are expansions and it has to do with budgeting. In order to add them into the game with all the content to make them feel complete it costs too much money to do it in the base game while providing enough content for the normal human stuff. I do think the team would love the time and budget to put seasons and pets in the basegame.
That's also why game packs and stuff packs happened. They pitch and idea with a scope and the budget on that scope and EA has to approve it. Stuff packs and game packs allow them to do things EA feels is less popular in a tight focused way, rather than not doing them at all.
I actually do really like sims 2 personally. 3 was OK and four... well I only really enjoy building. I keep making the joke that it is a pity the game wasn't renamed The Houses.
Re-hashing packs is something they tried not to do with sims 2. Or, if they did re-hash a pack they knew they had to do it bigger and better. Comparing Vacation to Bon Voyage, for example. I think the team is sort of running out of new ideas at this point. Or perhaps EA considers new ideas too risky. It is easier to pitch a pack as "people loved going on vacation in the sims 1 and sims 2 so we want to do another vacation pack." I'm sympathetic to the hand of business that might be controlling things on them, but also I feel like the team needs to hire more diverse people-- as in not programming and tech people from California who have lived their entire life no less than 40 minutes from a green smoothie.

Was it Sims 2 where they were trying to put seasons in the base game at first but were having issues?
Sims 1 is obviously my favorite. I loved Sims 3 a lot but it made my little Leveno laptop smell like a hair dryer. Sims 2 I had a lot of fun with at first but then the Machinima stuff became a huge hit and instead of enjoying the later expansion packs I was making really bad Sims 2 movies.
I never touched Sims 4 so I can't comment on it.

Sims 2 they tried doing weather but not seasons in the base game. Eventually, we got weather and seasons with a hefty graphical update and increased system requirements. I wonder if we could have had weather sooner, if the game came out later.

Yeah, I think it's pretty obvious that they've run out of ideas by this point. EA has always been a risk-adverse (and money-loving) company. They know that Sims fans will buy all the packs regardless, so it's cheaper and easier for them to just re-release the same themes for each new Sims version.😒 I also think EA really disliked how many creators were making money off of Sims content in the TS1/TS2 days (paysites were more common in the 00s due to bandwidth being more limited and expensive), which may be one reason why the Stuff Packs and Sims Store came into existence.

This is another reason why I've always stuck with TS1 -- I prefer using laptops to desktops, and the later games can be hard on laptops!😣 I remember back when TS2 came out, it wouldn't even install on most of the laptops that were available at the time. And, even early 10s era laptops could only run TS2 and a few EPs without any custom content (unless you wanted 6 hour loading times).
I love how much leaner TS1 is. I can easily play it in a window while I'm browsing online, and I can constantly hover around the download limit and still have a game that loads up lightning fast.
