Sims 2 they tried doing weather but not seasons in the base game. Eventually, we got weather and seasons with a hefty graphical update and increased system requirements. I wonder if we could have had weather sooner, if the game came out later. Reading this suddenly made me think of a hypothetical scenario -- what if Sims 2 had been pushed back to, say, 2006, and we instead got one more Sims 1 expansion pack that added weather?
I feel that if they wanted to launch Sims 2 with weather bad enough, they could've gotten a good practice run for that by adding weather to Sims 1 first. Vacation already added a very limited version of weather (your Sim's comfort levels would decrease on certain parts of Vacation Island if they were wearing the wrong outfit), so it should've theoretically been possible. Just a thought...

I always play Sims 1 in windowed mode so I can do other things. I have Sims 2 installed but rarely play it because I feel a bit overwhelmed? with it. I'm not sure how to explain it. Sims 3 I have not installed since I'm scared it'll overheat this current laptop.
Edit: Weather in Sims 1 would have been so cool.

Sims 1 has some text strings suggesting weather was planned. Objects also have a "temperature" attribute where '2' is used for the snowy states in vacation. That's also how the Simlogical seasons works-- it sets the objects temperature to 2, then updates the graphic. It's up to the object to decide if it wants to do anything different while it has temperature 2. (It also uses other numbers for the other seasons.)

I also think EA really disliked how many creators were making money off of Sims content in the TS1/TS2 days (paysites were more common in the 00s due to bandwidth being more limited and expensive), which may be one reason why the Stuff Packs and Sims Store came into existence. Well, it was against the TOS for both 1 and 2, which was a big source of drama. Why the FFFSS existed, how the Booty legitimizes itself. They eventually changed the TOS to kinda-sorta permit it in a roundabout way. EA actually does not like community content at all-- they see the free content just as much competition as the paid stuff. Why pay them for a furniture set if someone else has already made something similar for free? Or, if a small creator can price it more cheaply? Then again, you can still buy three shrubs for $4.05 (405 simpoints) for sims 3, so the sims 4 packs are very cheap by EA standards. I also don't so much mind them since they are priced in normal currency, which is at least more transparent. (Edit: Sorry for the double post I checked my notifications and didn't realize these were the same thread)

It seems like the later versions kept adding various features to make Sims more sentient beings and make the game more about life simulation than storytelling... which wouldn't be all that bad if it weren't for the fact that they didn't make the Sims any smarter.🤦♀️ (Why would I ever trust these creatures to make important life decisions when they can't find their way out of the bathroom?) Now, I will say that I love the build features of TS2. When I played the game, I spent far more time building houses and stores than anything else. Really loved having third stories/basements and being able to build more realistic-looking houses. Sims 1 has some text strings suggesting weather was planned. Objects also have a "temperature" attribute where '2' is used for the snowy states in vacation. Wow -- interesting!😮 It would've been so cool to have weather in the game.

Especially, since it isn't even the most current Sims version. But, stuff like that is very typical of EA.🙄

Whenever people complain sims 4 DLC is too expensive I remind them of those bushes and that they are now discounted and launched closer to $5.00.
